Disney DGamerDisney announced a new social network for kids called DGamer, but it’s not expected to be launched until May 2008, so it’s a bit on the horizon.

Timeliness aside, DGamer lets kids do all the fun things that kids like to do, Chat, Trade, Acquire “achivements” online and just have fun!  All this is done through your myspace-like profile where you get an avatar and can even be linked to your Nintendo DS console and be brought into the DGamer portal at Disney.com.  Disney calls this a “Complete Synchronization.”

Since 1994, Disney’s video game division has quietly grown to 700 employees while publishing in-house games and licensing its IP to other game makers, such as Cars from THQ and Kingdom Hearts from Square Enix. The company now calls gaming a long-term priority and expects double digit growth over the next few years. - Gigaom

Disney plans to invest into to this new development through 2007 and possible will spend over $130 million on its Video game division.   It looks like there is a niche that isn’t being filled right now, and that is a SAFE and SECURE way for KIDS TO PLAY ONLINE and INTERACT with eachother.

Does Disney have the answer?

- We’ll just have to wait till Mid 2008 to see!
