Chris McCall in Utah had a genius idea to use google maps to get his Pool cleaning and maintenance company off the ground in a very quick fashion!
So, 15 months ago he decided to start cleaning and maintaining swimming pools on his own. “Just kind of wanted to get a jump on life guess you could say.”
Chris had the same problem that all new businesses have, “how in the world do I get new business?” Most people would go door to door and ask customers if they had a pool and if it needed some maintenance, but Chris had a better idea. Why not use google maps to get a Birds Eye View!
McCall already knew there were a lot of pools along the Wasatch Front but Google Earth opened his eyes to just how many.
“Targeting people by using the satellite imaging, looking from I-15 up to the mountain range. Took them all compiled them together and got a list of about 5000 backyard pools,” says McCall.
Ok, so you’ve got a list of houses with pools, how do you get the addresses? McCall says, “Five houses in or two houses in all I’d do is write down the address.” Each pool got a pin point on his map, “There’s probably 300, 400 pools in Provo,” he says.
This Birds Eye View has yielded a huge amount of leads for Chris, “It took me a long time to drive by each house,” says McCall. “It was worth it.”
“This has opened a lot of doors,” McCall says, “I don’t know what I’d be doing If I wasn’t doing this.”
